What is Hockey?
The game of field hockey is played widely across the world played in over 100 countries. In Aotearoa it is a popular family orientated sport, played through both clubs and schools, by both men and women, boys and girls.
Why is it good for me?
A high energy, fast-paced sport that provides a
great workout to help build your fitness, and also develop agility, hand-eye
coordination, and concentration levels.
As a team sport, it’s a great way to help you make new friends or get moving with your current friends. There are plenty of grades available to suit people of all levels allowing you to pick up the basics of the game, you’ll be having a great time with your friends in no time!
How much will it cost me?
If you contact your local Hockey Association, club
or school, they should be able to arrange for you to meet the right people and
let you know how to give it a go – to see if the sport is for you.
If you do decide to carry on playing, then you will be asked to pay a one-off registration fee to help cover team costs.
What do I need to play?
To begin playing all you will need comfortable
clothes that provide enough movement (t-shirt, shorts or tights). Playing
equipment such as sticks, balls and shin pads are often provided for your
initial taster experiences.
If you carry on playing and as you get better, you will want to purchase your own playing equipment.
