Going for a run or jog is probably the most simple form of activity that you can do! All you need is somewhere to run or a route, a positive attitude, your two feet and away you go. A run also doesn’t always mean running – it can include fast walking, a slower jog, sprinting or racing. What is even better is it’s all up to you about how fast you go and how far you run. So put on some trainers and put one foot in front of the other and away you go!
Why is it good for me?
- Great for improving fitness levels, heart strength, lungs, brain function and energy levels.
- A simple and easy way to burn calories.
- A proven way to de-stress and make your mood better.
- Makes your bones and muscles stronger.
How much will it cost me?
If you have a place to be or a route to run and a can do attitude then running is free! It can be done almost anywhere and at anytime. Go for a run in a park, on the streets or on a path. You may need to buy yourself a good pair a trainers (if you don’t have any all ready), and clubs or running groups may have subscription or membership fees but other than that do your laces up and away you go!
What do I need to play?
A good pair of trainers that support your feet correctly are a must have. This will decrease the chance of injuries happening and make your run far more enjoyable.
Clothing that you can move freely in such as a t-shirt and short or leggings is ideal. When it is a bit colder outside a long sleeve might help. Try avoid wearing jumpers as you run though to avoid the risk of overheating. If you are running when the light is low you should also consider wearing high-vis clothing to help others in cars see you!
