Qualified CrossFit coach Tegan recently attended the CrossFit Games in the United States where she and her team took out an event win! Whether it’s on the world stage, weightlifting training or walking her little pug, Tegan says being physically active is part of who she is. Her best physical activity advice? Find something you like and give it a go – everyone starts somewhere so enjoy the journey.
What does it mean to you to be physically active?
Being physically active is a big part of who I am, it’s had a huge part in developing me as a person. It’s given me confidence, helped me build resilience, opened so many opportunities for me and most importantly introduced me to some very special people in my life. It is so much more than just ‘doing exercise’, and I encourage people to look beyond the physical part and allow it the opportunity to benefit so many other areas of your life.
What advice would you give girls looking to get physically active?
1. EVERYONE starts somewhere, so just go at your own pace and enjoy the journey.
2. Find something you enjoy, exercise comes in so many forms, you don’t need to force yourself into running or lifting weights if you hate it. You’ll find it hard to stick to something you don’t like doing so pick something that makes you want to go back!
3. Not sure what you like? So many places offer free trials these days; Yoga, CrossFit, F45, Zumba, Boxing, team sports etc.… take advantage of these, grab a friend and try a few out. Pick one that makes you feel like you want to go back!
4. Make it social. Exercise can be a fun time to socialize with friends or meet new people. If you struggle with motivation, pick something that has group classes so when you don’t turn up, or your motivation gets low, someone will notice, and you’ve got others to be accountable to
